African Utopia at the Southbank Posted on July 24, 2012 On Sunday 22nd July, Disa had the honour of appearing alongside Baaba Maal and other revered African delegates in a talk on how society can be changed through social and skill based projects. Speaking for 5 minutes and with questions afterwards Disa discussed her experiences in working on projects in South Africa teaching jewellery making skills to young people. Due to her many visits in recent years to East Africa Disa has an understanding of the challenges that face African culture, and is a great supporter of projects by designer Elsie Owusu, who is currently heading a project that champions Ghanain Gold. Disa has been responsible for the making of one of her designs for this project, and Baaba Maal has agreed to wear the piece during his performance at the Southbank centre this weekend. We are thrilled to be part of such an exciting project and looking forward to the concert on Saturday.
